Regionales Klima und Hydrologie
Wasser und Klima – sie sind von zentraler Bedeutung für den Menschen, seine Umwelt und seine Zukunft, und eine der großen wissenschaftlichen und gesellschaftspolitischen Herausforderungen der Gegenwart. Wie viel Wasser steht wo und wann zur Verfügung? Wie verändern sich Wasserverfügbarkeit und das Hochwasserrisiko unter transienten Klimabedingungen? Welche langfristigen Wechselwirkungen gibt es zwischen Landoberfläche und der Atmosphäre? Welches Klima erwarten wir bis zum Jahr 2100? Wie verlässlich sind langfristige Klimaprojektionen und mittelfristige saisonale Vorhersagen? Sind die beobachteten und für die Zukunft erwarteten Veränderungen statistisch signifikant? Um diese Fragen zu beantworten, werden komplexe hydrologische, atmosphärische und gekoppelte numerische Modellsysteme zu regionalen Erdsystemmodellen weiterentwickelt und zu konkreten hydrologischen und klimatologischen Fallstudien eingesetzt. Dabei kommen auch multivariate statistische Methoden zum Einsatz sowie aus terrestrischen Observatorien (z.B. TERENO und WASCAL) und aus satelliten- oder erdgebundenen Fernerkundungsmethoden gewonnene Beobachtungsdaten.
Die Forschung erfolgt in enger Zusammenarbeit mit dem Lehrstuhl Regionales Klima und Hydrologie der Universität Augsburg, der gemeinsam mit dem Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT) betrieben wird.
Wir bearbeiten folgende Forschungsthemen:
- Einfluss von Klima- und Landnutzungsänderung auf Wasserverfügbarkeit, Hochwasserrisiken und Ernteerträge
- Gekoppelte Atmosphäre – Hydrosphäre Simulationen
- Regionalisierung hydro-meteorologischer Größen mit Hilfe dynamischer und statistischer Verfahren
- Vorhersagbarkeit hydrometeorologischer Größen auf sub-saisonalen und saisonalen Skalen
- Interaktionen zwischen Wasser-, Energie- und Kohlenstoff-Flüssen
- Bestimmung kleinräumlicher Niederschlagsvariabilität mit Hilfe von opportunistischen Sensoren (insbesondere kommerzieller Mikrowellenlinks) und geostatistischer Datenfusion
