Dr. Tanja C. Schober

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Dr. Tanja C. Schober (née Portele) is a meteorologist and hydrologist focused on the co-production of climate services. Her research aims to provide actionable decision support using sub-seasonal to seasonal forecasts to strengthen resilience and reduce the impacts of climate change. She earned her PhD in Climate and Environmental Sciences with highest honors from the University of Augsburg, Germany.

At KIT/IMK-IFU, Dr. Schober is actively engaged in international research collaborations, capacity-building efforts, and the supervision of early-career researchers. She has organized multiple international workshops and scientific events. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges atmospheric science, hydrology, economics and stakeholder engagement to support climate adaptation in vulnerable regions.

Research Fields:

  • Regional atmospheric modeling (dynamical downscaling)
  • Seasonal climate forecasts
  • Hydrological modeling
  • Gravity wave excitation and propagation in the extratropics

Current Project:

  • CONFER - Co-production of climate services for East Africa

Former Projects:

  • SAWAM - Seasonal water resources management in semiarid regions: Application-oriented transfer of regionalized global information
  • DEEPWAVE - DEEP propagating gravity WAVE
  • GW-LCYCLE II - Investigation of the life cycle of internal gravity waves
